Dr. Death

Dr. Death is out! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I didn't realize that his assisted suicide methods were "unconventional." What's worse? The fact that people have assisted suicides or the fact that there are so many assisted suicides done that there's actually a conventional way of doing it?

Yes. The conventional way is how Rambo does it.

What's wrong with an assisted suicide? If you had a loved one that had a painful terminal disease and they were in constant pain and their quality of life was very poor and they asked you to help them pass, would you not consider it?

I would consider it actually. Take for instance that woman Terri Schiavo. Her story was all over the news. In her case it would've made sense...I'm sure there are other cases similar to hers where it would make sense.

Dr. Death was sentenced to jail time because what he did conflicted with Hammurabi's code. It's an outdated, irrelevant ethical code stating that a doctor should do everything in their power to save their patient's life. Maybe it made sense back when Hammurabi was around...when medicine was just a bunch of hocus pocus that had little to do with science, but does that mean it should be the foundation for today's medical code of ethics? These days, medical science can keep a patient hanging on to life indefinitely, but is that in the best interest of the patient or the patient's family? I say no. It is in the best interest of the doctors and their paychecks though.

I don't think medical practice should abidge by antiquated rules and regulations, but there's gotta be a better way than what he did.

From a CNN article..."He used a machine he'd invented to administer fatal drugs and dropped off bodies at hospital emergency rooms or coroner's offices, or left them to be discovered in the motel rooms where he often met those who wanted his help."

Just sounds really shady to me.

It's the Hippocratic Oath, not Hammurabi's Code that doctor's abide by.

As for assisted suicide, it seems to me that having simple 3-person review panels to consider individual cases could be set up. A patient could fill out a simple form, have his/her doctor sign it, and then have a review panel approve it if all is in order.

We put down pets who are in agony, but for some reason, we cannot alleviate the suffering of terminal human beings. That is inhuman.

It's the Hippomatomasus Arse, not the Hippocratic Oath that doctor's SHOULD abide by.

As for assisted suicide, it I was in unbearable pain and relegated to a bed and death was inevitable, I would seriously consider assisted suicide. Let me pass on my terms with my dignity.

Hammurabi's code is about slave ownership and such things as how punish Rob every time he visits Tank Johnson in the clink for a conjugal visit. Whatever. You get the point. The Hippocratic Oath is a convenient excuse for doctors and hospitals to keep terminally ill or life supported patients alive so they can fill their wallets.
